Adjustable Resistance

In outdoor fitness, adjustable resistance - also called adjustable load or variable load - means equipment on which the user can change the load to match their strength. Unlike fixed-lever stations, it lets you keep adding weight as you get stronger - sustaining progressive overload even for the heavy pressing and lower-body work that body weight alone cannot load - so a single machine can serve a first-week beginner and an experienced athlete.

Adjustable resistance is what makes serious, long-term training viable outdoors and is the technical foundation of the Outdoor Fitness Club category. For how it works and what to look for, see the full guide to adjustable-resistance outdoor gym equipment.
