Outdoor Gyms in Yokohama
Japan's second most populous city is a historic port on Tokyo Bay whose harbour front has been regenerated into waterfront parks, promenades and open public spaces popular with walkers and runners. Hilly residential districts, seaside parks and neighbourhood parks equipped with health equipment for older residents give the city a varied setting for outdoor exercise close to where people live. Like most of Japan, Yokohama treats outdoor fitness as public infrastructure: equipment installed in parks and green spaces, usually free to use. In the public sources we checked, Japan has no dedicated national standard for this equipment; EN 16630, the European standard, is the international reference point used in our guides, so check what each installation was specified to.
Training outdoors in Yokohama through the year
A humid subtropical climate very similar to neighbouring Tokyo brings hot, humid summers, a June rainy season and typhoon risk in late summer and autumn, slightly moderated by sea breezes off Tokyo Bay, with mild and mostly dry winters. Spring and autumn are the prime seasons for outdoor training, and winter mornings are often crisp and clear. Planning around the seasons - and choosing equipment that stands up to the local weather - is what keeps an outdoor gym useful year-round. Our guide to outdoor training covers how to build a routine you can keep in any climate.
