Outdoor Gyms in Indonesia
Outdoor fitness equipment has become a familiar feature of Indonesian cities over the past decade, placed in municipal parks and public squares, along riverside and waterfront walkways, on beaches, in the grounds of schools and sports fields, and in the communal green spaces of housing estates. Public installations are funded by city and provincial governments as part of their park and public space provision, while housing developers, shopping and office complexes, hotels and resorts install equipment on their own land as an amenity. Public installations are free to use, and are busiest in the early morning and after sunset, when the heat eases. The climate is the main constraint: the lowlands are hot and humid throughout the year, the rainy season brings heavy afternoon downpours, and the combination of constant humidity, intense sun and, in coastal cities, salt-laden air makes corrosion resistance and weatherproof materials a central consideration in the choice and maintenance of equipment.
Permanently installed outdoor fitness equipment ranges from simple bodyweight stations to adjustable-load equipment. In the public sources we checked, Indonesia has no dedicated national standard for it; EN 16630, the European standard, is the international reference point used in our guides. New to outdoor gyms?
